Ellie Goulding – “For Your Entertainment”
Not why I felt compelled to check the credits. But not surprised to see Connor McDonough and Riley McDonough are credited as writers and producers on “For Your Entertainment.” Both are also among the writing and production of Joji’s “Glimpse of Us,” arguably one of the best songs ever.
We are absolutely allowing that bias here. We’re hearing that same songwriting instinct for total romantic self-destruction just in a completely different package. “Glimpse of Us” quietly ruins your life; “For Your Entertainment” is willing to jump from burning buildings, drink from poisoned wells and end up chalk on the pavement for you.
Different delivery system. Same alarming commitment to the bit.
We could go deeper on the team, the production, the accolades and all the chatter about Ellie Goulding making a comeback on her own terms, but we’ll spare you the fluff. Ellie earned her stripes a long time ago, and she never really went anywhere. A better use of my time is pushing play again and dancing around the house like a gay, pop-obsessed teenager starring in a self-directed, self-choreographed music video.
