Peking Duk & Matt Corby - "Let Go"

Peking Duk & Matt Corby - "Let Go"

Turns out letting go is something you can forget how to do.

Nobody tells you that letting go is something you can forget how to do. You get very good at holding things instead. Deadlines. Expectations. A conversation you’ve replayed enough times to qualify for residuals. Eventually, carrying all of it starts to feel so normal you stop noticing the weight.

“Let Go” is a pretty effective reminder.

Peking Duk give the song plenty of room to open up, while Matt Corby sounds exactly like the person you’d want delivering the message. His voice has that slightly weathered warmth that makes two very familiar words feel considerably less like unsolicited advice. The production keeps building around him without rushing the payoff, and somewhere along the way the title stops sounding like an instruction and starts sounding achievable.

Because “let go” is advice we’ve all heard approximately nine thousand times, usually from someone offering absolutely no guidance on how to accomplish it. Peking Duk and Corby provide a more useful approach. Turn it up. Stay there for a few minutes. Let the record interrupt whatever circuitry has been running unchecked all day.

The song never needs to tell you exactly what you’re supposed to put down. Bring your own. By the time Corby sends those two words back through the speakers again, whatever you walked in carrying feels a little less urgent.

The instructions were there all along. We just needed them set to music.
