MILEY – “Bass Persuades”

The kids are annoying. I know that’s a boomer thing to say, but every generation seems to arrive a little more digital, distracted by trends designed to expire before anyone has time to miss them. So I’m with Miley on this one. If the kids don’t wanna dance, maybe it’s time to respond with our best Footloose and Thriller, chased with a shot of Seventy One Gin courtesy of Mert Alas. He owns the brand, directed the video and happens to be something like the Guy Bourdin of our time, one of the great image-makers working today and a longtime Miley collaborator.

Mert and I have some unfinished gin business. My husband and I once tried so hard to get a bottle of Seventy One to Nashville that we enlisted a friend in London, ran afoul of international customs and ultimately spent somewhere around $600 importing an empty bottle after she had to pour the gin out. Mert heard the story, laughed and graciously offered to send us one himself. So here's to Miley making the kids dance again, whatever beautiful trouble these two have planned next, and one day finally raising a Seventy One Martini with Mert. I’m manifesting all three.
