Cyst, Iglooghost, daisy – “Pest”
Quickly invested here. Looking around, I feel like I’m in a room Digable Planets have spent some time in. Die Antwoord have definitely passed through and left fingerprints on the walls. There’s dusty hip-hop cool in one corner and grubby electronic mischief smeared across another, while Cyst make themselves perfectly at home in the mess. To be clear, these are extremely high compliments. THC-warning-label high.
Which brings us to Cyst. Iglooghost and daisy made this album somewhere between raising a kid, doing household chores and dealing with a cartoon rabbit whose apparent agenda includes scamming them and fucking up their garden. Normal stuff. “Pest” gets the last word, which seems fair considering the bunny has spent an album being a dick.
By “Pest,” to hell with it. The rabbit is chewing through microphone cables, crawling into venues through the ventilation system, stealing green-room snacks and entertaining a record deal that would make him the frontman. There’s even a carrot-colored Audi involved. Nobody call an exterminator. By the end, I’m not sure we got rid of the pest. I think we gave it a key.
