Kim Petras – Detour Review

Kim Petras – Detour Review

House of Petras debuts its boldest collection yet.

The invitation offered little more than a location and a name: DETOUR.

By the time the lights dimmed, nobody seemed interested in asking where they were. Concrete stretched into darkness. Orange construction lights flickered just beyond the runway, as if the show had been built inside a place everyone else had been told to avoid.

Then the first look arrived.

LOOK 01
Detour

The opening look takes the corner hard. Shoulders arrive first, exaggerated past good manners, with tailoring sharp enough to make the straight route look boring. Every seam points forward. By the second step, following feels less like a decision than momentum. This is the collection yanking the wheel before anyone has time to check the map. The destination can wait. Tonight belongs to the turn itself.

LOOK 02
DTLA

The second look trades brute force for elevation. Cut impossibly sleek with reflective fabrics that catch every flashbulb, it climbs higher with every step until the runway feels suspended above the city itself. Luxury has always promised a better view, but House of Petras understands the higher you rise, the lonelier the skyline becomes. Even dressed for the penthouse, this look never escapes the long way down.

LOOK 03
I Like Ur Look

Patent leather gives LOOK 03 the lacquered perfection of something fresh from the box, while outsized proportions push the fantasy toward cartoon glamour. Doll-like, yes, but nobody else is doing the dressing. Getting ready becomes its own form of seduction, every detail chosen for the pleasure of seeing exactly what you wanted staring back from the mirror.

LOOK 04
Check It

LOOK 04 knows your eyes are wandering. Let them. Glossy lips. Broken-in denim. Skin without a visible grievance. Each detail earns another second of inspection, but the real expense is in the delivery: the particular confidence of knowing the check has already cleared. By then, staring feels less like bad manners than following instructions.

LOOK 05
Polo

Country club etiquette comes stitched into all the wrong places this time. The collar is crisp, the pleats are perfect and the look borrows from old-money tradition, right up until House of Petras starts undoing every button the dress code forgot to warn you about. The result could get you kicked out, assuming anyone on the membership committee can stop staring long enough to file the complaint.

LOOK 06
Brutalist

The runway grows quiet.

The playfulness leaves the runway. In its place: architecture, sculpted with severe lines and enough weight to feel almost immovable. This isn't a garment so much as a monument, carrying memories in every angle and every contour. Some pieces are designed to be admired. This one exists to remember what was lost after the wrecking ball arrived.

LOOK 07
Need For Speed

The pace changes the moment LOOK 07 steps onto the runway. Every panel is engineered for movement, its profile so streamlined it almost outruns the model wearing it. Nothing drapes. Nothing lingers. Even the fabrics seem impatient to reach the end of the catwalk. By the time LOOK 07 gets there, the rest of the collection suddenly has a speed limit.

LOOK 08
Jeep

Nobody saw this exit coming. Sun-faded denim, broken-in leather and perfectly worn cotton arrive carrying a life of their own. There's dirt on the boots, history stitched into every layer and just enough romance to make bad decisions look irresistible. Beauty pulls into the gas station parking lot and leaves the road home waiting.

LOOK 09
101

The speedometer climbs again. Precision-cut tailoring hugs every curve, making imitation look like a traffic violation. Cameras scramble to keep up, but there's a knowingness in the walk: she's seen the copies, clocked the references and knows exactly where they started. Consider this the original with the tags still attached.

LOOK 10
Basketball

LOOK 10 sends sportswear down the runway with a secret tucked into the pocket. Relaxed layers move easily through every pass and pivot, but the tailoring keeps pulling the eye toward details meant to be noticed up close. There's romance here, just not the courtside, kiss-for-the-camera kind. This is the look you wear when the game ends and nobody needs to know who you're leaving with.

LOOK 11
Bitch Ball Out

Luxury returns several tax brackets richer. The coat is enormous, the bag needs its own security detail and every accessory appears to have been selected by someone who recently learned the phrase “no spending limit.” Even the sunglasses look like they have an assistant. By the time LOOK 11 reaches the end of the runway, excess has learned to believe its own press.

LOOK 12
Korea

Arriving after the excess, dressed down to the nerve, is LOOK 12. The palette drops to muted tones, the lines stretch long and clean, and for the first time all night, the clothes stop arriving before the person wearing them. No armor. Just a silhouette carrying the particular exhaustion of having wanted something badly enough to wonder what getting it cost. The runway has never looked more exposed.

LOOK 13
Freak It

For the final look, House of Petras empties the dressing room. Fishnets under immaculate tailoring. Towering heels. Kiss prints where the lipstick had no business going. Every piece from the night suddenly seems available for misuse. By the time the model reaches the end of the catwalk, people in the front row are already on their feet. Good. They’ve behaved long enough. The finale gives them permission to misbehave.

The lights fall.

Silence.

One by one, the collection returns.

The opening statement returns first, still impossibly commanding. The penthouse glamour follows. Beauty, nostalgia, speed, luxury and heartbreak all take their final walk together, no longer individual statements but chapters of the same story. What felt like thirteen different characters now reads as one complete collection.

Then Kim Petras steps onto the runway.

Not to steal the moment.

To thank it.

She walks the length of the runway once, smiles toward the crowd, then disappears behind the curtain as the applause finally catches up.

The house lights come up. Nobody moves.
