CRATE Pulls of the Week
Every Friday we update CRATE with the records that don't quite belong on Condensed and probably need bigger speakers anyway. Bass music, UK garage, breaks, electro, festival weapons, late-night discoveries... if it rattles the speakers, it probably ended up here. Here are this week's favorite additions.
BUNT., Lauren Spencer Smith - “Stay”
For the first 42 seconds, "Stay" could almost pass for a lullaby. Lauren Spencer Smith's vocal floats gently over BUNT.'s production. Then she belts the first of many soul-emptying "Stay here" pleas and straps you into Ninja at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The song swings, dives and whips through the speakers with that same suspended, terrain-hugging momentum, every drop arriving with your stomach somewhere a few feet behind the rest of your body. BUNT. has always known how to weaponize tension, and "Stay" makes every second of the buildup worth it.
Lance Savali (feat. Rita Ora) - “Higher”
Lance Savali and Rita Ora crack open a couple of Red Bulls, get their wings and spend the next two and a half minutes proving gravity is optional. "Higher" is all confidence, pairing Rita Ora's certified pop-star vocal with crisp, propulsive house production. This one belongs behind a pair of CDJs, where every chorus gives one more person an excuse to step onto the dance floor.
Zoey808 - “GUCCI GUCCI”
Zoey808's Spotify bio reads, "you're early 💞," while his bass-fueled flip of Kreayshawn's "Gucci Gucci" feels like it crash-landed from five years in the future. Loud and lawless, it stomps onto the runway with enough low end to rattle every luxury storefront on Rodeo Drive. Gucci. Louis. Fendi. Prada. Ross Dress for Less. Designer labels are optional. Turning the volume all the way up isn't.
Mary Droppinz, JONCASS, SVDKO - “LOUDER”
Mary Droppinz, JONCASS and SVDKO locked themselves in a studio and walked out at 1:40 a.m. with an EP called 140 Mafia. Every drop lands like someone blurting out, "Wait... I have one more idea," followed immediately by three producers leaning back in and refusing to call it a night. Sleep is temporary. Basslines are forever. Start with "LOUDER" but be "READY" to "CHECK" out the rest.
Hedex, Travy, XTEN, Overlook - “Ok Ok”
"Ok Ok" has the energy of someone saying, "Calm down," seconds before making everything exponentially worse. The title says "Ok Ok." The production says, "Absolutely not." Hedex, Travy, XTEN and Overlook pack every second with enough bass and attitude to turn the smallest speaker into a public nuisance. Consider this your official noise complaint.
Groove Armada - “Body Action”
Groove Armada have been making people dance for nearly three decades, so we're not about to question their percussion choices. Hand claps? Ass slaps? The jury's still out. "Body Action" finds one irresistible rhythm and gives it the entire dance floor.
