Benny Sings feat. Baby Rose — “Do No Harm”
“Do No Harm” wakes up, looks outside and decides today might be a good day. No promises.
Benny Sings and Baby Rose spend their collaboration wedged between optimism and whatever comes immediately before optimism when you're still deciding whether you have the energy for it. There's sunshine this morning. Possibilities everywhere. Arms are apparently open to strangers. Then again, the road is endless, the weather relentless and the entire world appears to be rearranging itself inside someone's head. So, are we having a good day or not?
Maybe that's asking too much. “Do No Harm” offers tenderness as a superpower and its title as something resembling a daily operating principle: see what arrives, remain open, try not to make anything worse. Honestly, we've heard less useful wellness advice.
“Do No Harm” appears on Benny Sings' new album 22 Durnham Dew, released September 25 via Stones Throw Records, a record inspired by settling into family life, renovating a home and confronting adulthood as, in his words, a “real person.” And maybe that's why this strange little song works so well inside it. Adulthood rarely hands you a verdict on whether you're having a good day. Sometimes the sun is out while the weather remains relentless. Take what comes. Be tender. Try not to fuck anything up.
