sunandmoon, Ogi, Anoop – “Meant To Be”
Some invitations write themselves. I added “Meant To Be” to Dinner Party and only afterward noticed it arrived via After Dinner Records, at which point we're apparently no longer curating so much as following instructions. Pull up a chair. sunandmoon, the collaborative world of Ogi and Anoop, has the kind of self-assurance that usually takes artists considerably longer to learn. Not to sound like somebody's father, but why do these two look this young while making music with a fully funded retirement account
The maturity isn't limited to the sonics. “Meant To Be” opens at rock bottom, then introduces an unlikely motivational speaker: your younger self. The version of you who hadn't yet learned all the reasons something might not work. An old diary resurfaces, childhood dreams come back into view, and suddenly meant to be isn't about destiny delivering the correct person to your doorstep. It's about becoming the person you once assumed you'd grow into. Even the mistakes get counted as steps in the right direction. Excuse me, I thought we were having dinner. Who invited personal growth?
Everything surrounding that message feels equally grown. The production knows when to leave space. The vocals settle into it instead of climbing on top. Nothing is trying to prove how expensive it is. And the cover art? Everyone else can go home. The table has been set. Their shared bio offers one line: “you can always look up.” Turns out they may have given us the instructions after all.
