Liana Flores - "So It Goes"

Liana Flores - "So It Goes"

The world has the nerve to keep being beautiful anyway.

"So It Goes" refuses to match its own emotional weather. Liana Flores wraps thoughts of absence, uncertainty and carrying on inside a breezy bossa nova that practically insists you order another Aperol Spritz. One minute you're wondering why your life feels upside down. The next you're absentmindedly admiring how nice the water looks. Somehow both feelings coexist without arguing.

That's what makes this song so clever. Flores has said the idea came from realizing you can be dealing with anything internally while the world keeps moving exactly as it always has, and the effortless poise of bossa nova felt like the perfect companion to that thought. Instead of fighting that contradiction, she leans into it. English drifts into Portuguese. Gentle guitars glide underneath lyrics that quietly accept there isn't always a grand resolution. The planet spins. The river flows. And so it goes.

As someone who's half Portuguese, I may be slightly biased, but this song feels like checking into Reid's Palace in Madeira, finding the perfect lounge chair overlooking the Atlantic, and deciding whatever can wait until tomorrow... probably should. There's a quiet confidence in that. Not giving up. Just recognizing the world isn't waiting for any of us, so we might as well enjoy the view while we're here.

Dinner Party note: We happily saved Liana Flores a seat at the table. You'll now find "So It Goes" on our Dinner Party playlist, where conversations linger, glasses stay full, and nobody's in a rush to solve life's biggest questions.
