Kacey Musgraves - “Weekend In Texas”
I mean, it's Kacey Musgraves. Wherever she's going, we're coming along. Although someone at the airport might have questions about why her suitcase is suddenly 190 pounds heavier. Listen, if Kacey wants to Tennessee herself right out the door, I would also like to Tennessee myself right out the door. I've been waiting my entire life for someone to turn a state into a verb, and naturally, she's the one who figured it out. “Weekend In Texas” finds our favorite traveling companion abandoning a relationship that's long overstayed its welcome, trading an inflated male ego for dance floors, cowboy hats, and the entirely reasonable possibility of tequila for breakfast. I see no problems with this itinerary.
Released alongside “Mi Tesoro,” the song introduces Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, a 16-track companion to her latest album arriving January 15. Kacey leans into the musical traditions connecting Texas and Mexico, bringing mariachi horns, lively organ accents, and her unmistakable country-pop charm along for the ride. There's something especially satisfying about hearing her deliver a breakup with such good humor. She's already said goodbye to the man, made alternative arrangements, and secured transportation for the cattle. Meanwhile, he's probably still composing a lengthy text explaining why she's misunderstood him. Good luck with that, sir.
And this is where I become completely unreasonable about Kacey Musgraves. The voice, the songwriting, the visual world, the way she carries herself, and her willingness to speak up for what she believes in. She's the full superstar package, and I've happily followed her through heartbreak, healing, cosmic romance, and all the strange little places in between. She keeps finding new corners worth exploring, and I keep finding reasons to love her more. Kacey really is my favorite state of mind. They may call it the Lone Star State, but wherever she goes, she's never short of company. In fact, I'm closer than she thinks.
