jigitz feat. venbee – “seeing stars”
“seeing stars” gives us the kind of relationship that probably shouldn't be making long-term plans. There’s makeup sex, fighting, fairgrounds, funhouses and enough emotional whiplash to reasonably suggest everybody should go home.
Instead, jigitz and venbee start imagining getting old together.
That little turn is what makes the song for me. “When I get old, I’ll be seeing stars” isn't delivered like some enormous declaration of devotion. venbee barely needs to push it. Her vocal sits so comfortably inside jigitz’s production that the sentiment almost slips by unnoticed, which makes it sweeter. Forever arrives sounding suspiciously casual.
And the beat is stupid good. jigitz comes out of UK garage, breakbeat, house and bass, but “seeing stars” happily lets pop crash the party. So the floor gets plenty to work with while venbee handles the singalong above it, and neither side has to announce what genre we’re currently in.
Dance record. Pop song. Relationship crisis. Love song.
Nobody seems particularly concerned with choosing. And I think you'll agree, it all lands en pointe.
