MICO – “Sorry”

MICO – “Sorry”

Thank you for your apology. No.

Apology accepted? Absolutely not. MICO has reviewed the evidence, considered the defendant's previous offenses, and decided the court will not be hearing any further testimony. “Sorry,” one of five additions to the deluxe edition of his debut album when the lights turn on, is a wonderfully direct confrontation with someone whose remorse appears to be entirely dependent on getting caught. We've all met this person. Some of us have even given them a second chance. Or a seventh. The court would prefer we keep those details confidential.

MICO delivers the verdict with the kind of conviction that makes a good pop chorus feel especially satisfying. The melody is immediate, the production keeps the energy high, and the lyrics leave remarkably little room for interpretation. He's exhausted every reasonable opportunity for reconciliation, and the other party has apparently mistaken his patience for an unlimited subscription. Sorry. Your membership has been canceled.

I've also been enjoying the visual world MICO has built around his music. The photography, styling, and overall presentation have a confidence that carries through to the song itself. He's got a strong sense of how he wants to present himself, and “Sorry” makes a compelling introduction to that personality. Consider this my formal acknowledgment that I'll be paying closer attention.

As for the apology? Denied.
