Freya Ridings: Lost Without You

To love someone so much to have no control.

What I fancy most about London-based artist Freya Ridings is that she’s just herself – so obviously comfortable in her own skin. It seems simple, but for her listeners that type of confidence is absolutely inspiring. She manages to balance mainstream appeal with a unique kitsch that drives every listener, myself included, wild with emotion. I’m so appreciative to be on this road with Freya Ridings, and mind you, my die-hard fandom is few and far between.

Since the launch of her most recent single, "Lost Without You," she has emerged as a worldwide music force, yet she stands apart from any comparison. Her songs are so powerful that a listening session through her discography is foot race between the chills sent ravaging down your unsuspecting spine, and the tears plunging down your face; both impossible to conceal when hearing her voice lilting against her sonic backdrop.  It’s not white picket fences, but it's the sound of a lifetime of living, and cycles of seasons distressing and wearing down her chords to perfection.

After months of patiently waiting, it’s “go time” tonight as Freya will be performing at The Peppermint Club in West Hollywood (ticket info here). I'll be there with Tyler (and a box of Kleenex).  And in the words of Robert Burns, my favorite quote of all time, and in reference to Freya Ridings's voice and musical backdrops, “Such a composition is like adding cream to strawberries — it not only gives the fruit a more elegant richness, but has a peculiar deliciousness of its own.”

To be continued...
