[PREMIERE] LA Poolside: Make It Boom
Consider our blog's eclectic taste and our affection for the talented yet outlandish, then allow me to introduce you to my favorite new band out of Los Angeles called LA Poolside. Their debut single, "Make It Boom", is a tongue-in-cheek outlook on money, fame and the culture that surrounds it, which makes them absurdly cosmopolitan, if you ask me. It's like the old saying goes, "Look for the ridiculous in everything and you will find it." They looked. They found it.
Singer Marika Dahlin, who you'll recognize from Wargirl (Cold War Kids and Matt Wignall’s side project), alongside the doubly handsome Michael and Thomas Mauriello, showboat their expert knowledge of sonic synchronicity that binds together three minutes of lyrical imagery that will make any casual listener an immediate devotee and quite possibly obsessed.
"Writing Make It Boom was a really fun process for us. We started out messing with some percussion ideas, and the track kind of took on a life of its own from there. With our music, we try to poke fun at the darker parts of the current zeitgeist. This song in particular talks about the often misguided perception that, in order to really "make it" you have to "sell" pieces of yourself in the process. Ultimately, our goal with Make It Boom is to satirically comment on Hollywood's gilded culture, while making you dance in spite of it." - LA Poolside
