Look Out Weekend: Conquer & Recover Edition
Back in my youthful days, Friday was the sweet, sweet holy grail of adventure. I'd wait for the clock in the office to wear down so I could drink cheap beer and take discount tequila shots with my friends. When you mix a 21-year old's drinking tolerance and hangover recovery time with a big city filled with dive bars, bad decisions are on the horizon. As you make your way into this weekend, relive your glory days while listening to this song. Or if you're like me, make great decisions while reminiscing on the bad ones you used to make. Sip an $18 cocktail or a $20 glass of wine and talk about that time you somehow ended up a pool party with a totally impressive mid-level band.
This is the perfect song to listen to as your Friday night comes to an end. When the bar is closing and you're with a new friend on your way to a fast food drive-thru, hit play and cue the romance. Put the windows down and stick your hand out the window. Let the wind blow through your hair. If you're a car passenger, lean your head against the headrest and stare joyfully at the driver. Before you know it, you'll be at make-out point staring down at the city lights.
OK, so say it's Saturday afternoon. You're feeling really lazy. Maybe you stayed out too late the night before. All you want to do is order pizza and binge watch something on Netflix. But, you already committed to going out again or celebrating somebody's birthday or anniversary or whatever occasions require group outings. Listen to this song. It'll get you in the mood to be social, get crazy, and live life a little bit while you still can.
Once 'Dafty' has you in the right headspace, you're ready to face the world again. The next step is figuring out what to wear. You're suddenly ready for your fanciest party dress or suit & tie. You're basically Justin Timberlake dancing in Mirror or Usher back when he used to drop down to his boxers every concert. Hit play on this cover of 'Sober' and dance around your bedroom. Recreate your very own getting ready movie montage. Dig deep into your closet. Pull everything out. Mix and match. Take risks. And don't forget, you're really freaking cool.
That went well. You made it to Sunday. Now you can totally do the pajamas thing all day without question. Nobody judges you on Sundays. In fact, if you manage to do anything beyond going out for brunch, you're basically applauded. As that sinking feeling in your stomach starts to grow reminding you that you have to go to school or work tomorrow, fear not. 'Brave' is just for you. Listen to this song and remember, you can do it. It's just another week. Before you know it, you'll be back in weekend mode.
