Happy Labor Day: Weekend Edition
Happy Labor Day weekend to everyone working hard for their money. Try and take some time out this weekend to give yourself a pat on the back and celebrate your achievements. And sayonara to all the youngens heading back to school with their JanSport backpacks, Five Star School Binders and #2 pencils. Do pencils even exist nowadays? By the time I have a kid and they're going back to school I'll be like "sweetie, do you have you microchip installed?" For the rest of you non-workers/non-students, you're still invited to the join in the festivities but your homework is giving five random compliments to people you come across this weekend. I mean, you don't fucking work, right? Consider this your new temp gig - it comes with lots of benefits. Since there's only 18 days left of Summer, I'm tipping the scales of my healthy work/life balance a little more towards life today. So before I leash up Chappy and we drive down the PCH to Malibu, here's five tracks - all from a different spectrum of the rainbow - to audition for your holiday weekend's playlist!
XYconstant's "Do It Well" does well in offering a crossover pop tune sun-kissed with tropical house vibes and features vocals from Tom Aspaul.
Kehlani throws on a few gold chains and gets Charlie Puth on the phone to create their own spin on Drake's "Hotline Bling." Still works for those looking to share a glass of champagne out on the dance floor, although with less sweat and less ass hanging out.
My 1964 Impala is a Prius. West Hollywood isn't exactly the hood either, but the boys are always hard, just not in the way the song suggests. The trash talking is more gossipy too, but it's about the juxtaposition here that makes WILD STYLE and VISSION's remake of "Boyz N Tha Hood" by Eazy-E a classic throwback nod to bring out mid-shenanigans for just about any occasion.
For that peak moment of your Labor Day weekend when your ready to WERK off those calories on the dance floor, may I suggest Oliver Heldens's latest? He gives Da Hool's famed "Meet Her at the Love Parade" a HI-LO edit that'll have you reaching up high and getting down real low.
We've reached the end of the week, my friends - and this post. I'm waving "Bye Bye" with Chordashian's latest, but will look forward to catching up next week. See you beautiful people on the flip side.
