Marika Hackman: Animal Fear
Tropical steel drums and Goldeneye-esque gun sound effects? Are you in there, Marika? It’s as if her producer told her they needed an upbeat track for the album, and she replied with “okay, but it’s going to be about werewolves and intimidated lovers. . . is that alright?”. The bizarrely jaunty track could be seen as a growth in, or a departure from, her dark-folk style – either way, the result is a positive one. It’s the perfect combination of sway-inducing instrumentals and smoky, sultry vocals, producing a happily subtle yet inherently animalistic sexual allure.
Marika’s debut album We Slept At Last is out on the 16th of February.
