Free n Losh & Tyler Rix: Witchcraft

Free n Losh Tyler Rix Witchcraft Alright, y'all. Crack open your notebooks and turn to page 127 in your KKS Textbooks. To fully appreciate this what Free n Losh have done with this record, we're gonna need a little bit of context. If you don't already know, this song was originally written by Cy Coleman in 1957. After spending a bit of time floating around as an instrumental it hit the ears of Frank Sinatra and his brilliant arranger, Nelson Riddle. When those two were finished with it this song sat on the charts for an extended stay of 16 weeks. It went on to be nominated for 4 Grammy Awards.

So when Free n Losh come around with a cover version, they're implicitly bringing a lot of history to the table. Saying it's a ballsy move would be an understatement. The verdict? They killed it. With tasteful reharmonizations, modern vocal performance, and a saxophone that blurs the line between tacky and brilliant 17 times over, I can't help but love this. It's perfectly updated for 2014. If radio was still playing jazzier tunes, this song would get so much airplay it would bust your speakers - guaranteed.

No matter - I'll be playing it loud enough that everyone in a 15 mile radius will be simultaneously furious and obsessed.
