Ryn Weaver: Octahate (Cashmere Cat Remix)
It is a supreme pleasure to listen to anything Cashmere Cat remixes. It is even more of a supreme pleasure to listen to anything Cashmere Cat remixes when he had his hand in the original. Like his edit of Ariana's Be My Baby (which he also co-wrote), this Ryn Weaver remix plays off the soul of the original tune, but springs into colorful, frantic blossoms of production. They're frenetic, but purposeful. Eccentric, but focused. It's almost as if we're getting a stream of conscious edit in these Cashmere colored remixes.
Where he has to taper his sonic innovations in his productions for other artists, we get the full (& beautiful) Cashmere treatment when he carefully cuts up these pop cuts behind closed doors. And don't get me wrong, I love them both equally - really. The pop songs are brilliant in their songwriting and service to melody, and these remixes are brilliant in their sonic palette and tonal landscaping.
In short - I love this remix and I love this original. For entirely different, but equally important reasons.
