Public School: Don't Wake Me Up
Simplicity. It's sorely lacking these days. When we're overloaded with gigantic beats and soaring synths day in and day out it's easy to lose sight of what makes music music. Public School gets that. Almost more than anybody out there right now.
Really, I'm not exaggerating. The LA-based songsmith serves up a song that is, for all intents and purposes, a lazily plucked bassline and an absolutely gorgeous melody. And while he could have gone and dressed this tune up in theatric and histronics, we're instead treated to this spacious, hooky, and absolutely fresh aural treatment. Props to Public School and his co-writers Allie X, and Mike Wise. The next time you're thinking of adding remember this tune, and how gorgeous things can be when you subtract instead.
