[Exclusive Premiere + Free Download] Step Rockets: Kisser (Dart Party Remix)
There's somewhat of a gray area when categorizing the relationship between an artist and a remixer -- collaboration often times seems like a generous word to explain the process, but when all the musical stars align and it fits that description it's nothing short of brilliant. Such is the case with Step Rockets and their chance meeting with NY producer, Dart Party. Both parties met in New York City at the Le Poisson Rouge, and after spending some time together at Firefly music fest, it seemed a collaboration was the natural thing to do next. The song in mind? Step Rockets' hit single, 'Kisser' -- taking the soulful track from the church-gone-dancehall emotional stomper to the sharp, euro lounge, glass-clinker track produced by Dart Party.
What stands out is the vocal prowess on both versions, and specifically on the remix -- there is a frenetic nod to Michael Jackson when fit into the time signature, a feeling that was there in the original but more pronounced when paired with four-on-the-floor and side chained vintage synthesizers. To see such different approaches that can hold their own evocatively says a lot about the core of a piece of music, as well as the talent and execution of Step Rockets and Dart Party.
If you're looking for the aloof, slow-spinning good time of the French Riviera paired with coy, flirtatious center of the indie-rock zeitgeist - look no further! This tracks for you, and if there's any damage done to Soundcloud due to constant repeats, we'll forward the website to the two collective artists' info...it's not our fault that it's so good.
Josh Von Mink, the lead singer of Step Rockets felt this remix was the perfect way to let everyone know they can expect another track from Step Rockets very soon. The Rockets are scheduled to release a song titled "Phantom Flower" in October along with another string of tour dates set for this Fall while the band continues to work in the studio.
