To try to label Robert Lux is to date yourself – the reclusive producer/DJ whose appetite for innovative music is exceeded only by his obsession for creating it. It's hard to imagine a sound so unique and widely appealing if you haven’t heard it already. If that's the case, his remix of Alex Clare's highly infectious "Too Close" is a good place to start. Raw, rhythmic, sample-heavy and instantly danceable – Lux’s music cuts straight to the bodies on the dance floor and the mind of the listener. Add in a gritty bassline, layered with sharp drums and a progressive blend of emotive melodies, and wrap them in Alex Clare's sensual vocals - there's no arguing, Lux channels the angst and aggression of youth with the sophisticated wisdom of a veteran househead.
"When it comes to remixing a track, context is key. Taking a vocal or a riff and re-situating it in a new musical environment changes everything about how I hear it. This remix is all about that. Stripped bare of the bluesy/dubstep production of the original, I heard a different quality in the vocal and the lyrics - a driving, late-night intensity that could support a more hedonistic house track. After a few months of playing this out around peak-hour in my DJ sets, and getting a bunch of people asking about it, I decided to give it out publicly as a free download. This track is all about release for me, and hopefully some other people will get that from it too!" - Robert Lux
