[Premiere] A Gap Between: Ombré Haze
Neon lit signs are oddly beautiful and strangely comforting when walking through a dark city at night. Cobalt blue, cerulean, fuchsia, and a bright green (the kind reserved only for the dreams palm trees in LA seem to carry) reflect back a jagged world. This unavoidable light bounces off puddles of oil and water in the street near concrete corners.
There’s a refreshing confidence in neon signs- Portland based A Gap Between’s new single “Ombré Haze” elicits this same understanding. He’s created a track that makes this harsh world reflect back to us smooth and a little less broken. I’ve found myself stepping into his sonic pool of cool water, fully embracing that my shoes will inevitably get wet.
This twinkling beacon samples a clip from what I can only imagine is a conversation overheard while passing a group of friends- another way that A Gap Between creates music that feels like I could reach out and touch it.
Punctured with moments rich in synths and a feeling of exploration - this track simultaneously reminds me that future expositions in music are waiting to be tapped. “Ombré Haze” brings to the surface a sonic experience, introducing us to something intangibly real.
