Elephante: Pretty Lights EP

Elephante: Pretty Lights EP

ElephanteKKS Elephante told us he'd be back with more tunes, and now he's delivering. The LA producer first won over our hearts in early October when we premiered his tune Pretty Lights (it's been on repeat since we first heard), and the rest of the tracks on his debut EP are just as addicting.

The EP opens with Who Do You Love, a buzzing, ephemeral track with finely crafted vocal edits strewn up and down. Followed by Trillion, another big house tune coated in giant synth stabs and half time pitter patters. And right before the title track is Elephante's most brilliant tune, Empire. It's driven into play by a Russell Conwell monologue, and the track then explodes into a romping electro number held down by stuttered, stammering electric guitar lick.

But Elephante himself describes the EP better than we can

"The short story of "Pretty Lights" is that I was in my apartment one late night staring through my window at the lights of the Hollywood Hills in the distance. The words just came to me. I was also, to put it delicately, super drunk (luckily I wrote down the lyrics before I passed out). But, from there it turned into this idea about chasing something big and important - not necessarily fame or fortune, but anything that you have - a crazy, irrational drive to do, something you have to be almost delusional to think you can accomplish. I think it comes from romanticizing the big city and how beautiful and inviting the lights look from afar, and then realizing how terrifying they are when you get close. At the risk of sounding dramatic, I think that ethos seeped into my music, such that the songs have an ambitious, grandiose sound but are still really sensitive at their core. TL;DR "Why Georgia" by John Mayer."
