Lana Del Rey At The El Rey Theatre

Catch this feature on Grammy.com, HERE On June 5 the famous El Rey Theatre stage was transformed into what I imagine the Gardens of Versailles labyrinth must have looked in the 17th century: manicured hedges across the brim of the stage, with spiraled topiaries and gardenia trees framing a microphone stand positioned front and center. Accompanying the lush landscape was a pianist, three violinists and a cellist, all dressed in white as they rested under palm fronds. The usual back curtain was replaced by a screen projecting a firework show of imagery, most notably an imprint of the artist’s name as she took the stage, resulting in an uproar from the crowd. As Lana Del Rey emerged, her look was… Read More →

Lana Del Rey: Born To Die (AlunaGeorge Remix)

Glitch-pop duo AlunaGeorge have taken on our Favorite Lips of 2011 and reworked ‘Born To Die’. Lana Del Rey‘s vocal seem even more soulful and powerful as they gracefully waft over the warbles and wobbles of AlunaGeorge‘s epic glitch sound. Two budding musical powerhouses have come together in a bold step to create something absolutely unique and beautifully unexpected. If this is what music has in store for 2012, I am very excited indeed. (Yes this means I am firmly on the Del Rey bandwagon, I am okay with it.) Lana Del Rey: National Anthem

The Interwebs’ hottest musical Femme Fatale, Lana Del Rey, must have quite the loose lipped team (pun intended, HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE BEAUTIES? Unanimous winner of Best Lips 2011 by KKS HQ), as leak after demo after leak has hit the net. The latest ‘National Anthem’ is the first track to really catch me since ‘Video Games’. (Sorry Brent please don’t beat me!) Her beautiful and unique voice sometimes doesn’t seem to fit the tempo of her music, but ‘National Anthem’ is brilliant. Lana channels a westcoast vibe that takes me back to the days when slow, soulful and gritty westcoast hip-hop ruled my radio – perfectly showcasing her brazenly seductive attitude. So take into account this is a leak… Read More →

Lana Del Rey: Blue Jeans (Mover Shaker Remix)

Kick Kick Snare may be one of Mover Shaker‘s ‘go-to’ blogs (his words), but he should know that he’s one of our ‘go-to’ producers when assistance for moving and shaking is needed and counted on. The future mother to one of my children, Lana Del Rey, has been finally receiving the attention she’s deserved for years. The original cut of Blue Jeans is perfection. So it takes a rare breed of talent to pull of a remix of such heroic proportions. Two months ago Mover Shaker posted a remix for Lana Del Rey’s Video Games that has since made its way into New York Fashion Week (Prabal Gurung fashion show), NYTimes and MTV.  Good taste vs. talent. Win win. Lana… Read More →

Lana Del Rey: Blue Jeans

Lana Del Rey continues to step into prominence in her florescent vintage style. This self-proclaimed gangsta Nancy Sinatra has been generating a hefty amount of attention through the music community and rightfully so. ”Blue Jeans” will accompany her smash single “Video Games” coming out in October. Some say it’s a fundamentally insincere love song, and exquisitely languid. But I’d have to disagree. The chorus doesn’t expose insincerity, rather someone who’s clearly had their heart broken. I will love you till the end of time I would wait a million years Promise you’ll remember that you’re mine Baby can you see through the tears Love you more than those bitches before Say you’ll remember, oh baby, say you’ll remember I will… Read More →
