Foxes: Let Go For Tonight

Foxes first burst into our ears back in early November last year with ‘Youth’, which easily was one of the best tracks of the year. Since November we have been completely enchanted with her powerful vocals, captivating genre smashing sound and intuitive lyrics. When something this good comes along it’s hard to fight lust for more, but we were patient…mostly. Our self-control was rewarded with ‘White Noise’, but we are greedy greedy fans and our lustful ways left us hungry for more. We are completely addicted.

We couldn’t have lasted much longer without another fix, so when Foxes gave us ‘Let Go For Tonight’, we embraced the warm euphoric musical high with arms open. ‘Let Go For Tonight’ is co-written by veteran songsmith Kid Harpoon, who you can partially thank for Florence + The Machine‘s brilliant Ceremonials. This is Foxes completely unbridled and exposed, her voices flows over the light synths and piano chords, resonating through the dark sound, piercing you in the heart with no hope of escape from her passionate grip.

‘Let Go For Tonight’ is lifted from her upcoming Warrior EP and will be released via Neon Gold Records on July 3. If you are in London tonight, you are a very lucky, as you can see her debut at the launch of Neon Gold’s Popshop UK tonight at Camp.

Fun. Live at 9:30 Club

Fun. The three-piece band is made of lead singer Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff took over DC for back to back nights of sold our shows at DC’s legendary 9:30 Club. This is the club that fueled my passion for concerts, live bands and the spark that led me to a life of music, so it was truly a treat to see Fun.‘s incredible effect on 9:30 and everyone who filled it to its 1,200 person capacity. I had forgotten the magnetic energy that overcomes 930 when it is at capacity and every person in the room is exploding with anticipation for the band they are about to see. It is an experience I have only felt on very rare and unquestionably special occasions. Fun. joined the ranks of very select group of bands, at one of the best venues in the United States that night.

The excitement was not for the audience alone. Fun. exuded a genuine elation, you could see it beaming from Nate’s face as he took the stage that Friday night. You saw it in moments when he would lose himself in a smile between songs and in the brief but awe-struck stares the entire band would have as they looked out over the capacity crowd. There is something very personal and beautiful when a group of musicians and their audience both equally enjoy and care about the music. It is a binding force. Primal. Sincere. Honest. The last artist I can remember having this affect on an audience was Robyn. I took over 50 pictures that night, not one can fully capture the experience and how unbelievable it all was. Some Nights are frozen in time, this was by far one the best I have ever had at 9:30 Club.

Winnipeg’s favorite 6 piece band of music makers, Royal Canoe, is on tour in the US as I type, and are making a stop in DC tonight! They will be playing Velvet Lounge. Doors open in just a few short hours at 7:30pm, but the bands don’t start going until 9! All are welcome to the show, well everyone who love great music and is 18 and older that its.

So if you are looking for plans to get the weekend going a little early this week and in need of some great music. Head out to Velvet Lounge tonight. To give you a little taste of what you can expect from these guys live and up close take a quick minute to watch them performance for one of our In Session’s down at SXSW this year.

Brooklyn’s freshest Pop Powerhouse AVAN LAVA are heading to the Nation’s Capital to take center stage at DC9‘s WORLD Famous Liberation Dance Party tomorrow night! Kick Kick Snare is proud to lead the way for their first ever invasion of the District and they are bringing a full armament of lasers, fog machines, and more lights than those crafty French are able to pack onto the Eiffel Tower!! Don’t think Brooklyn’s finest is stopping there! There is synchronized dancing, and of course frontman TC’s show stopping voice, to say this kind can sing is an understatement, boy can SANG!

Consider your plans for tomorrow night made for you! For just $8 dollars, which I will point out, is less than one vodka/soda/tonic/cranberry whatever you drink. So come see what New York and SXSW are all buzzing about. But I will let AVAN LAVA speak for themselves! Check out video from their show at The Glasslands back in February.

We’re back again for another month of musical diplomacy. Tapping in to Kick Kick Snare’s deep musical reserves, we’ve got a World Bank of global dance music coming your way. Resident DJ’s Della Volla and Aaron Riggins are back from circumnavigating the world and Kick Kick Snare’s wild ride to SXSW and ready to join forces with DJ AVM. Everyone is back this month, so join us as we bring you everything we’ve acquired along the way.

This month’s Pop Goes The World is brought to you by the letter A. Many of you know that Aaron’s favorite place in the world is in Argentina – Buenos Aires. So this month we will be bringing you a special taste of Buenos Aires and it’s rising homegrown music. And of course if you are from a country that starts with the letter A you get in FREE tonight!(Sorry, This does not include the USA.) Show us your passport as proof!

Bubbling up from the streets of Buenos Aires ZZK has been at the forefront of cultivating a new type of electronic music that’s not merely a regurgitation of the club charts in Paris, New York, and London. Instead ZZK has created a distinctly Latin American form of electronic music that integrates the cumbia and folkloric music of South America with everything from dancehall to dubstep. Much like what Detroit was to techno and Kingston was to dub and reggae, Buenos Aires is quickly becoming the focal point for this latin american cultural movement. Listen to a teaser of the future of Latin Dance from ZZK’s upcoming Future Sounds of Buenos Aires, which is set to be released on May 1st.

Alphabeat Announce New Single: Vacation

Today has made itself out to be quite the exciting Tuesday. I mean sure this day in history gave us frozen veggies and Bayer aspirin, sure both revolutionized modern living, but really those are rather mediocre in comparison to the news Alphabeat announced today! They will be releasing their new single ‘Vacation’ on Monday March 12th. CLINCHER! It will be released in Europe and the US at the same time! So what does this mean, as we couldn’t get any Alphabeat on my native shores until this past fall? Are Alphabeat planning a US invasion? Clearly, along with the The Wanted, I am a very willing subject of the new pop overlords.

So you don’t know much about Alphabeat you say? Kick Kick Snare has only mention them a few times? Thankfully the band has put together a little video to get you better acquainted.
