Long time favorite of mine Bright Light Bright Light, aka Rod Thomas, just released his first US EP today. Blueprints 1 is a beautifully rich, honest, and touching collection of songs from one most talented musicians in the pop world. Blueprints is a stark and gorgeous departure from the textured, emotional synth-pop he has become loved and known for. Stripped down to a single piano, Rod’s voice and the voices of musicians he has worked with over the course of a year hard at work creating his debut album.
In a letter to fans Rod explains the sentiment and emotions behind the upcoming album. “[It] is all about connections with people and places. To explore this idea, I’ve recorded alternate versions of the album tracks inviting musician friends of mine to sing on stripped-down solo piano versions with me – the blueprints of the songs as it were – for EPs accompanying the album itself.” The EP features duets with Sunday Girl, Del Marquis of the Scissor Sisters and the ever amazing Sound of Arrows.
These stripped down, almost rawly honest versions of his songs are only further proof of the talent and beauty of Bright Light Bright Light‘s ability to make music that connects and shares a poignant outlook on life, the people in it and the hopeful outlook that life is something special to share. In a day and age when pop music is overflowing with songs and lyrics as deep as a kiddie pool, Bright Light Bright Light is a much needed beacon of what music can be.
The re-invented version of ‘Disco Moment’ is delicately beautiful and even more touching telling of the story of honesty, communication and love quietly flickering in and out.

KickKickSnare was fortunate enough to spend sometime with Rod back in December and film some exclusive and very intimate sessions of two new tracks and one very special Robyn cover. We will be posting these throughout the week, so for now enjoy the new EP and check back to see Bright Light Bright Light perform just for KickKickSnare.
AND one very special bonus. The very danceble, pretty much amazing, slightly 90′s infused Fear of Tigers remix of ‘Disco Moment’. I just had to share it.
