Kick Kick Snare: February 2012 Mixtape

Ahhh February, when the weather is not consistent, children of love find more ways to spend money on each other and we at Kick Kick Snare show our lust for all of you, by throwing 20 songs on a digital mixtape (CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE). We here at KKS are extremely excited for February, why? Because we’ve got some monstrous, mind melting, disco ball-breaking stuff going on backstage, and we will soon be inviting you to the VIP room. In light of this exciting month in KKS history, I thought it would be interesting to expand our horizons with a bit of edutainment to go with the music. I have compiled a few interesting events in February history so that you can sound all smart-like while you jam out:

Feb. 2nd – 1959 – Buddy Holly aged 22, the Big Bopper aged 28, and Ritchie Valens aged only 17 died in a plane crash in Iowa.
Feb 2nd - 1892 – Patent for the “Bottle Cap” received
Feb. 4th – 1957 – NME published a one-off magazine entitled Rock-and-Roll Personality Parade, thought to be first UK pop magazine.
Feb 7th – 1964 – The Beatles first United States visit began in New York
Feb 10th – 1863 – 1st U.S. fire extinguisher patent granted to Alanson Crane, Virginia
Valentine’s Day (14th): 1778 – The United States Flag was formally and officially recognized for the first time when it was given a nine-gun salute as a foreign national vessel as it arrived in France.
1929 – On the same day that Mickey Mouse made his cinematic debut, Al Capone murdered seven of his mobster rivals in what is still known as the “St. Valentines Day Massacre.”
Feb. 17 – 1817 – A Baltimore street was first to be lighted with gas, from the America’s first gas company, 1817
Feb. 19th – 1878 – Thomas Edison received his patent for the phonograph
Feb. 21st – 1965 – Black Muslim leader Malcolm X was assassinated
Feb. 23rd – 1836 – The Battle at the Alamo began, 1836
Feb. 24th – 1803 – Supreme Court overturned United States law for first time
Feb. 28th – 1854 – Republican Party formed in Ripon, Wisconsin, 1854
