Steve Aoki is the World-Class Producer/DJ with an insanely incredible talent of playfully mashing up genres you wouldn’t expect could make such wonderful dancey music together – most of all it feels like he is having as much fun making his music as we do listening to it.
The current single features none other than dance starlet (diva in the making) Wynter Gorden and is by far the best track to show off Aoki’s ridiculous talent at mashing up genres, Italo-disco & dubstep, and making them into something greater than the sum of their parts – Seductive Dubstep. Aoki makes the usually cold and mechanic feeling dubstep, hot and seductive. Warm and playful Italo-disco teases you, luring you into its spell, only to unleash the musical vixen of pounding and pusling Seductive Dubstep.
All the tracks on Wonderland have a fun and often bouncey, strut/swagger inducing beat. The kind that makes you walk like Beyonce, without you realizing, only to immediately stop and pray no one noticed as you walk down the street to your office. (Not that I know ANYTHING about this personally.) Here are a quick shot out about my must listen tracks.
‘Control Freak’ is incredible for two reasons. 1.) It features my girl Kay 2.) It is saturated with funky guitar riffs that create a sound you would never expect from a house track.
‘Livin’ My Love’ starts off like one bad ass video game with, pulsing 8-bit synths that would make the Crookers & Fedde Le Grand jealous! Add in the not at all serious LMFAO and the edgy pop-sound of NERVO, you have a song that cannot be ignored.
‘Heartbreaker’ is Aoki as his most epic, with sweeping and soaring synths, that are reminiscent of dream-pop, all floating over a driving housebeat. Don’t let its epic feel fool you, it still keeps that fun and bouncey vibe that is contagious throughout the album.
Wonderland comes out just 10 days into 2012, but I challenge anyone to create a better big dancey house album this year. I can guarantee they definitely will not create one loaded with such a broad array of featured talent and has an energy and playfulness this addicting.
