Thanks to the sheer brilliance of Shane Martz for not only reminding me of the smash track Finally Moving by Pretty Lights but for reminding the music community how remixes should be done. It’s not about completely reinventing the wheel. It’s first about song choice, then about extracting the right elements to then restructure and layer. Shane brings the vocal sample of Etta James’s “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” prominently center stage while turning up the bass around her in a relaxed and sexy dubstep fashion, creating his very own rendition, yet respectfully retaining the essence of the original. Couldn’t agree more. Like what this guy does.
now thats hot!!
I think the sample was also used in aim’s cold water music (1999 i think) can’t remember which track. Tis alright and great that it brings that sound ti a new audience but doesn’t do much more than aim’s track in my opinion which was very original at the time.
This whole melody is a copy (/licensed steal) of “Let the Funk Ride” by Aim on Means of Production… one of my all time favourite tracks. Just as along as people know that I’m fine, just don’t think Pretty Lights wrote it. Mind you I don’t know if Aim wrote it… Just after that whole Avicii Leona Lewis problem i’m super jumpy over the whole plagiarism thing.. good tune though..
O lol, talking about Avicii, the lyrics are poached from his track Levels..
which are themselves a sample from Etta Jame’s my apologies..
