Levi’s Pioneer Sessions bring together today’s pioneering musicians to re-craft the classic songs that inspired their sound. These recordings celebrate the most important part of music: The song, its influence and the inspirational effect on the generations that follow. Here’s Raphael Saadig with a cover of The Spinners (No, not Monie Love) 1970 hit It’s A Shame.

Psychedelic and soulful, The StepKids step into prominence in a fluorescent fashion. A composition full of 70s kaleidoscopic guitar riffs and hazy summertime vocals combined into a perfect mellow tune they call Legend In My Own Mind.

Alphaville just had their track Forever Young remixed with the colorful memories of my underground past. Martin Lopez, (AKA Gummy Worms) achieved not only the moment at 1:14 when your standing in the middle of crowd, the backbeat drops out and the music gets real; but also the moment at 2:27 when the crowd then raises their voices – and arms, to dance.

Check out this new dubstep remix courtesy of George Lenton for Dizzee Rascal‘s single I Luv you off the 2003 album Boy In Da Corner. Lenton can’t really do wrong in our book. He has good taste in music and always packs a punch.

First, Neon Hitch led us officially into summer with a reggae influenced slice of pop with her Travie McCoy cover of Billionaire. Then, she continued to shine in bright bold neon letters with another choreography worthy, heartily expressed, kick-ass cover with a Sia vs. Mike Posner rendition of Cooler With Me. Now she’s just trying to give us a heart attack with her latest – a Snoop Dogg vs. Alina Orlova rework of the 2004 hit single Drop It Like It’s Hot. You heard correctly, though I’m sure just after reading the title alone you’ve already hit Play.
Also, for those of you lucky to be in the Chicago area on August 8th, mark your calendars. Neon will be playing Lollapolooza at 12:30 PM on the BMI Stage. Skream should just join La Roux and we can call it a day. Elly Jackson has once again lent her vocals to Oliver Jones for another dubstep collaboration that is featured on Skream’s upcoming release Outside The Box. Though more subdued than last years In For The Kill the partnership between these two results in music worth sharing. Plain and simple.
